Lamson Guru X Fly Reel
The Lamson Guru X takes one of Lamson’s most trusted workhorse reels and pushes it forward with thoughtful refinements in durability, rigidity, ergonomics, and overall performance. Fully CNC machined from aluminum, the Guru X delivers the strength and precision anglers expect from a machined reel while maintaining the lightweight feel that has made the Guru series such a versatile choice.
At the heart of the Guru X is Lamson’s proprietary Sealed Conical Drag System. With virtually no startup inertia and a broad, smooth drag range, the system provides dependable fish-fighting performance while keeping critical drag components protected from the elements. Whether you're protecting light tippet on trout or putting pressure on powerful saltwater species, the Guru X provides smooth and consistent drag performance.
Lamson has also refined many of the small details that make a difference on the water. A larger fluted drag knob provides easier adjustment and indexed feedback, while the thicker, shaped Delrin handle offers a more substantial and comfortable grip. The bottom of the reel foot has been radiused for improved fit and feel, and an integrated counterweight reduces unnecessary parts and weight.
The large-arbor design promotes fast line pickup while helping reduce line memory. A simple click-on/click-off spool system allows the spool to be removed without tools or levers, making line and spool changes quick and straightforward.
The Guru X ships configured for left-hand retrieve and can be easily converted to right-hand retrieve without tools. Guru X spools are also compatible with Guru X HD reels, providing additional versatility for anglers who fish multiple lines or techniques.

Choosing Your Guru X Size
Lamson sizes the Guru X so that each reel comfortably covers three neighboring line weights. The -3+ is ideal for 2- through 4-weight setups, while the -5+ covers the heart of freshwater fishing with 4- through 6-weight rods. The -7+ steps into heavier freshwater and light saltwater applications, and the -9+ provides the capacity needed for 8- through 10-weight setups.
