Intermediate to advanced tiers
Join us on February 28th for an exciting, flats-oriented tying class hosted by expert flats guide Chris Kokorda. The goal of this course is for Chris to provide a detailed walk through of 3 of his own personal patterns. You will learn how these flies are tied, the situations where each fly is advantageous, and how each one should be presented and fished.
Overview:
Northeast Flats are arguably the most challenging environment to target Stripers with flies. I’m constantly developing and redeveloping patters for flats and flats adjacent areas to problem solve on these fish when they are less than cooperative.
Swimming Crab “sidewinder”
A side swimming version of my flats crab with reconfigured components that fish chase on the strip and even hit as it falls.

Juvenile Lobster 🦞
-When working sand flats near boulder fields and gravel, this fly can be killer. On a 2/0 jig hook it’s a beefy offering but sometimes very convincing on big bass.

Sand shrimp 🦐
- as water warms into later June and July, small shrimp are abundant in the shallows.
They are not easily visible but the fish and birds see them just fine. A staple fly in my flats box always and good for bonefish too.
